Fifteen organizations were recognized at the Western Women with Drive event in Calgary today for signing on to Trucking HR Canada’s (THRC) Women’s Leadership Accord, bringing the total number of signatories to 29.
The newly signed organizations include industry employers and associations from across the country, many of which have demonstrated efforts to recruit, retain, and support women in the trucking and logistics workforce. THRC held a similar ceremony in Toronto in March, where 14 organizations signed the Accord.
“We’re excited to welcome these organizations to the Women’s Leadership Accord and celebrate them being leaders in advancing the sector’s workforce,” said Angela Splinter, CEO of Trucking HR Canada, in a news release.
“Promoting a diverse and inclusive trucking industry is a core value at the Manitoba Trucking Association,” added executive director Aaron Dolyniuk. “We are proud to be one of the original signatories of Trucking HR Canada’s Women’s Leadership Accord and remain committed to supporting the recruitment and advancement of women into leadership roles throughout the industry.”
According to Trucking HR Canada, efforts by employers who adopted more inclusive hiring practices contributed to a 27% increase in the number of women employed in trucking and logistics between 2016 and 2021 — equal to 26,235 additional women working in the sector.
Intake for the Accord is ongoing. Organizations first sign a Certificate of Commitment, agreeing to the Accord’s four pillars — gender equity, inclusivity, safety, and empowerment — and then may earn a Certificate of Excellence by demonstrating initiatives in leadership, recruitment, retention, safety, and community engagement.
