Polara, Cleo reposition after merger with focus on smart charging, grid savings

1 min read

Polara and Cleo, two Quebec-based electric vehicle (EV) charging services providers, have clarified their roles and repositioned their offerings following last summer’s merger.

According to a news release, Polara will continue to lead commercial fleet electrification projects with a full-service approach — from fleet analysis to day-to-day charging operations. Cleo, now a Polara product and no longer a subsidiary of Hydro-Québec, will focus on its smart charging management platform.

Since the acquisition, Cleo’s platform has added new features, including generating reports for carbon compliance credits. This enables electric fleet operators to participate in emissions-reduction programs by capturing the value of their lower carbon footprint.

Cleo has also played a central role in launching Polara’s exclusive Demand Response program with Hydro-Québec. The initiative, designed to reduce pressure on the power grid during peak periods, allowed around 15 fleet sites to shift charging loads during 12 winter peak events between Dec. 1 and March 31. Preliminary estimates suggest the pilot freed up approximately 3 megawatts of electricity, with participating fleet operators expected to receive rebates totaling several thousand dollars in electricity bill credits.

The program will continue next year.

“With the repositioning of both Polara’s and Cleo’s offerings and the introduction of these new, modern, and cohesive brand identities, we are ready to meet North American fleet operators’ full range of needs,” said Sebastien Fournier, president of Polara. “These enhanced identities result from months of reflection, with customer experience at the core of our efforts, and they mark the continuation of an exciting joint journey in commercial transport electrification.”
