The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) will conduct Brake Safety Week Aug. 24-30, with inspections focused on brake systems and components.
Inspectors will be focusing on brake drums and rotors during the event.

Trucks with brake-related out-of-service violations will be taken off the roadways until repairs are made, CVSA warns. The agency will also take the opportunity to collect data about commercial vehicle brake systems.
Some regions will use performance-based brake testers (PBBT) to assess braking performance, CVSA says.
“Brake Safety Week aims to improve commercial motor vehicle brake safety throughout North America,” CVSA said in a release. “The goal is to eliminate roadway crashes by conducting roadside inspections and educating drivers, mechanics, large- and small-fleet motor carriers, owner-operators, and others on the importance of proper brake inspection, maintenance and operation.”
