Trimac Transportation celebrated 80 years in business this week, with an event at Heritage Park in Calgary, Alta.

It plans additional events through September to celebrate its employees. The company started as MACCAM Transport in 1945 in Moose Jaw, Sask. It was founded by Jack McCaig with a single Model A Ford truck.

The company grew through the 1950s when sons J.R. ‘Bud’, Roger and Maurice joined the business and led its expansion across Western Canada. The company acquired H.M. Trimble & Sons in the 1960s and rebranded itself Trimac, relocating to Calgary.

The business went public, then was returned to the private ownership of the McCaig family in 2000. Today, the fleet employs 4,000 people and operates more than 6,000 tractors and trailers across North America.

“For 80 years, we’ve safely delivered products that improve people’s lives,” said Matt Faure, president and CEO. “What makes us most proud is the way we’ve done it, by investing in our people, innovating with purpose and never compromising on safety or service.”

Last year, it was named 2024 North American Safety Champion by the National Tank Truck Carriers, recognizing it as the safest tank truck carrier in North America.

“Our history is a story of resilience, relationship and respect,” said Jeff McCaig, chairman of the Board and member of Trimac’s founding family. “While the industry has changed dramatically since 1945, one thing has bever wavered: our people are our greatest strength.”
