A commercial vehicle safety blitz in Guelph, Ont., on Aug. 29 resulted in 41% of inspected trucks being placed out of service.
Officers inspected 34 trucks and took 14 out of service for various violations. Nearly four dozen charges were laid, the Guelph Police Service reported.
The blitz was hosted by Guelph police and supported by commercial vehicle safety officers from Waterloo Regional Police, Halton Regional Police, London Police, the OPP, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Finance and the Canada Border Services Agency.

“Based on feedback from our community, road safety was identified as one of the Guelph Police Service’s key priorities in our latest strategic plan,” Inspector Andrew Goody said in a news release. “Initiatives such as this safety blitz, and the resulting number of violations and unsafe vehicles taken out of service, demonstrate the ongoing need for proactive enforcement to protect the public from unsafe vehicles.”
