Heavy-vehicle training centre opens in Québec–Lévis region

1 min read

CPA Québec–Lévis has opened a new heavy-vehicle training centre in Lévis, Que. The facility includes classrooms, mechanical workshops, welding areas, towing training space, a dispatch room, and other training areas.

Quebec transport minister Bernard Drainville said the Quebec–Lévis region is a strategic corridor for heavy transport and noted the job has evolved significantly, according to a news release. “Today, driving or servicing a heavy vehicle has nothing to do with how the job was done 20 years ago,” he said during the inauguration on Nov. 20. “You can’t simply learn once and expect that to be enough.”

Drainville said ongoing training is needed to address labor shortages and support trades such as mechanical work and heavy-vehicle maintenance. The new center will offer programs focused on updated sector requirements, qualification, and competency development.

Lévis mayor Stéphane Blaney noted the training initiative will support economic activity in the region.

Christine Bibeau, general manager of CPA Québec–Lévis, said the centre will act as a “laboratory for applied training,” supporting skills development and recognition of prior learning.

Deputy general manager Éric Valois added the center will help provide strong training conditions, while Drainville described the investment as strengthening both the workforce and local businesses.
