The Professional Truck Training Alliance of Canada (PTTAC) and the Saskatchewan Trucking Association (STA) have held a virtual meeting with Randy Hoback, Member of Parliament for Prince Albert, Sask., to discuss the inclusion of commercial truck driver training under the Canada Student Financial Assistance Program (CSFAP).
The federal program provides grants and loans to full- and part-time students in post-secondary programs. Currently, truck driver training programs do not qualify for CSFAP funding.
PTTAC and STA said they plan to address this barrier and continue working with Hoback and other federal representatives to advance funding accessibility and support the inclusion of truck driver training under the CSFAP.
Since its formation in December 2023, PTTAC’s advocacy has focused on establishing commercial truck driving as a recognized Red Seal trade in Canada, developing nationally approved truck training instructor programs, removing barriers to funding and tuition support, and ensuring standardization and compliance for training schools at both provincial and national levels.
