Several media outlets are reporting that the California State Transportation Agency will soon begin reissuing licenses to some of the 17,000 immigrant drivers who received cancellation notices for their non-domiciled commercial driver’s licenses.
A spokesman for the agency that oversees the Department of Motor Vehicles confirmed the decision to move forward, according to the San Francisco Chronicle and KQED.
Trucknews.com has reached out to the California State Transportation Agency seeking additional information. The Calif. DMV website still shows a note stating that as of Sept. 29, “the California DMV cannot issue or renew limited-term legal presence (non-domiciled) commercial driver’s licenses.”
In November, California sent out cancellation letters to about 17,000 drivers who did not meet the updated non-domiciled CDL emergency rule issued by U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
However, a federal appeals court stayed the rule, and California has reportedly taken steps to align the expiration dates of individual non-domiciled CDLs with work visas.
