Clarios announced that Ruan Transportation Management Systems will become the first fleet to deploy its IdleLess battery-monitoring technology. Ruan, which has 3,500 power units and 9,500 trailers, is headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa.
“This agreement reflects the growing demand for intelligent energy solutions in commercial transportation,” said Cagatay Topcu, vice-president of connected services at Clarios.
The Clarios Connected Services platform uses real-time battery data, AI-powered analytics, and cloud-based monitoring to help fleets optimize energy usage and reduce operating costs.
IdleLess monitors battery charge levels and sends alerts informing when to start or stop the engine to maintain optimal battery health. This reduces unnecessary idling, lowers fuel consumption, and extends battery life.
At a press briefing at American Trucking Associations’ annual conference in San Diego, Clarios executives said IdleLess can save fleets as much as $4,500 (all figures USD) per truck annually. They estimated savings of up to $3,300 in fuel and $1,200 from unplanned battery-related downtime.
Earlier this year, Clarios announced plans to invest up to $1 billion into a U.S.-based critical minerals processing and recovery plant.
