Thunder Bay police ticket 12 truck drivers for designated route violations

1 min read

Thunder Bay police ticketed 12 truck drivers for failing to follow the city’s designated truck route (DTR) during an enforcement operation on Nov. 28.

Monitoring had identified noncompliance with DTR rules, according to a news release. The Thunder Bay Police Service Traffic Unit was on patrol on Highway 102 (Dawson Road) between Dog Lake Road and Highway 11/17 when the trucks were stopped for not using the required route.

Transport trucks must use the DTR within city limits. The route is designed to keep cross-country traffic on major corridors, including Highway 11/17, Highway 61, Harbour Expressway, Main Street, and Island Drive, police said.

Signs posted

Heavy trucks may still access any destination in the city, but they are expected to stay on the DTR as long as possible and use the shortest distance on other streets to reach their stop.

Signs posted by the Ministry of Transportation and the city mark the approved route, and trucks must also comply with weight restrictions on streets outside the DTR.
